Austrian composer Franz Schubert (1797–1828) ranks among the greatest composers of the early Romantic era. Although he died at the age of 31 he was remarkably prolific, and his oeuvre includes more than 600 vocal works, seven complete symphonies, and a large body of piano and chamber music.
