Renoir painted Child with Cat (Julie Manet) in 1887, during his Ingres period. His fellow Impressionists and close friends, Berthe and Eugène Morisot, commissioned him to paint this portrait of their young daughter, Julie. The painting resides at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
