The legendary Charles Proteus Steinmetz was not only one of the greatest minds in the history of science, he was also the foremost pioneer in electrical engineering techniques in America. His contribution was twofold: first, his own researches and discoveries, secondly, his educational work. Steinmetz found it necessary to educate and train almost an entire generation of followers, and proved to be a remarkable expositor and teacher. While part of Steinmetz's work, obviously, has been outgrown, what with later technological developments, much of it remains as vital and as primary as it was when Steinmetz first prepared it. This present collection permits the modern student to meet the remarkable mind that created so much of our present life.
Volume II, Part One, considers shapes and distortions of voltage and current waves, and discusses polyphase systems. Part Two treats transient phenomena, analyzed on the basis of energy storage and decay. part Three is a detailed mathematical analysis of many kinds of transients. An appendix develops the algebra of complex quantities necessary for a-c circuit calculation.
