Dr. Michael Barnsley is a British mathematician and entrepreneur whose main research has been on fractal compression, holding several patents in the technology. Dr. Barnsley received his BA in Mathematics at Oxford University and his PhD in Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin. After many years on the faculty at Georgia Tech, followed by positions at the University of New South Wales and the University of Melbourne, he has been based at the Mathematical Sciences Institute of the Australian National University since 2004.
